What is your personal environmental ecological ethic Essay
What is your personal environmental ecological ethic - Essay Example What this implies is the fact that our efforts and endeavors must be aligned, planned and executed in such a way that there would be more fairness resulting from them than any other aspect. My personal environmental ecological ethic therefore banks staunchly on how I shape up elements within the ecological realms and what I learn from these all this while. This paper shall discuss my personal environmental ecological ethic and how it relates with the changing dynamics of the environmental debates as seen by my entirety in the time and age of today. What I have learned from the environmental ecological debate is the fact that human beings need to interact with the animals and plants ââ¬â essentially living things, on a constant basis. This is the age of co-existence and we, as human beings need to continuously monitor things around us, and thus devise ways and means through which we can interact, co-exist and correlate with the other organisms and living beings present in this wor ld. The aspect of ethics coming into the equation is all the more important because dealing with these living beings must be based on a premise which inculcates tolerance, empathy and care, more than anything else discernible. These discussions center on the aspect of bringing in a collective vision to set things right, and that too within the contexts of building upon the strengths that are present within the environmental ecological debates (Omta, 2011). Sustainability and adherence to the moral constructs within the environmental ecological understandings is indeed significant to bring in the much needed value and quality within the care concerns when one discusses the quintessential tangents of environmental ecological ethics. If the ethical considerations are not given the proper room to come out in the open and make a mark for its own self, there would be disharmony and anarchy amongst the worldââ¬â¢s most prized being, the human beings themselves. However, on the flip side , if these human beings construct the very basis of co-existing with the other organisms and living beings on the face of this earth, there would be much success and comprehension within the related departments (Ehiri, 2006). As suggested earlier, co-existence will indeed produce solid results as per my understanding and opinion of human beings being at the helm of satisfying the environmental ecological ethical debates. I am of the opinion that sanity might come about if there are concerted efforts within the related contexts of harmonizing the living beings and looking after the food domains that are present for them. Moving further ahead, I am a firm believer in the premise that food abundance is indeed a good omen for the living beings, which co-exist with one another in the world and for the sake of the ecology and the environment in essence. My belief has been strengthened with the kind of work that has come about with the important elements of the ecology, the human beings, t he animals and plants, all of which are making use of food and turning the solid wastes into food once again, though with a lot of processing required at different ends (Hannabuss, 2009). Food shortage could mean that the generations within the living beings could come to a halt. Same is the case with the depletion of the resources which could take place any time, and the manner under which these have to be used, and specifically by the human beings is somewhat of a problem for all concerned. However, proper steps need to be taken to do away with the negativities present within th

U.S.A. PATRIOT Act, Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and the Essay
U.S.A. PATRIOT Act, Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and the Future of Domestic Intelligence - Essay Example The attacks demolished the world trade center, which was regarded as a unique nucleus of international trade established in New York City, and took away 2,749 innocent lives. The attacks shook the pillars of the national security of United States of America and questioned the operation and functioning of the intelligence of the country. Following the day of attack, President George Bush immediately declared war on terrorism with his speech, ââ¬Å"The United States of America will use all our resources to conquer this enemyâ⬠(Kam & Wong, 2006, p. 380). Later, on investigation it was revealed that two of the terrorist pilots gained flying training at the Huffman Aviation International in Venice, Florida, in September 2000. These men entered the United States of America on a visitorââ¬â¢s visa. It was further analyzed that the applications of these men were changed from the visitor to those of vocational students which were processed by the Immigration and Naturalization Servi ce (INS). Another pilot infiltrated the country on October 9, 2000 with an F-1 student visa for the purpose of studying English at English as a second language (ESL) center in California, USA. In this case it was also revealed that the student never attended the institute and the institute never reported about the missing student. With this background information it could be said that the country was suffering from inefficient intelligence operation and management. In fact legitimate questions arose regarding the intelligence operation of the nation. In the aftermath of the 9/11 disaster, America witnessed the tightening of the trajectories of homeland security and enforcement of amended and new laws with stricter policies towards immigration and emigration. But it has been also questioned as to what extent the laws were feasible in the context of the protection of the civil

Kristens cookie company Essay Example for Free
Kristens cookie company Essay From the given data we can draw the following Process Flowchart The case analysis yields the following points 1. The time taken to fill rush order will depend on whether there are any orders that are being processed currently or not. Accordingly we will have two scenarios a). No order is being processed when the rush order is received. The time in this case will be equal to the sum of the time required for all the processes. Time = 6 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 5 + 2 + 1 = 26minute b). An order is being processed when the rush order is received. In the worst case, the cookies will have just been put in the oven. Thus oven will not be free before (1 + 9)= 10 minutes. By this time, the washing of the bowl and mixing of the dough for the rush order will be done. This will take 8 min. Since oven will not be free for 2 more minutes. Thus total time for this process will be 8 + 2 + 1+ 9 + 5 + 2 + 1 = 28 minutes Every additional order of a dozen cookies will take an additional 10 minutes to fulfill (as the time taken for baking is the only bottleneck involved) 2. If we are open for 4 hours (or 240 minutes), the number of orders that can be filled will be: Every order will take 10 minutes, since the baking time (ie 10min) is the bottleneck, except the first order which will take 6+ 2 =8min in the beginning and the last order which will take 5+2+1=8 more minutes. Thus, [240 (8+8)] / 10 = 22.4 orders can be filled in a day. That is 22 orders or 22*12 = 264 cookies in a day. 3. I am performing the process of washing, mixing and filling the dough in the tray, while the roommate is putting the tray in the oven, packing, and collecting the payment Thus for each order I spend: 6 + 2 = 8 minutes Roommate spends: 1 + 2 + 1 = 4 minutes A problem of idle time arises when more than one order is to be fulfilled, now if 2 simultaneous orders come, then I will have an idle time of 2 minutes and the roommate will have an idle time of 6 minutes. 4. If we order 2 dozen cookies or 3 dozen cookies, then my time will be reduced for washing and mixing, since the dough for 3 dozen cookies can be mixed together. That is my time will be reduced by 6 minutes for a 2 dozen order and 12 minutes for a 3 dozen order. My roommates time will be reduced by 1minute for 2dozen and 2 minute for 3 dozen. It is the time required for collecting payment since now she will collect payment only once for the whole order. However the total time for the process is still the same, since the baking process is the bottleneck and this will not affect the process of baking ,If this time that is saved, can be utilized for some productive work, which can earn more than the discounts we give, only then should we give discounts for 2 dozen or 3 dozen orders. 5. The business can be run smoothly using only one food processor, but the minimum number of trays that are required are 2 trays. This can be explained as follows The total time required for fulfilling an order is 26 minutes, now if another order is taken before the fulfillment of the first order then we will need another tray in which to place the ingredient mix and prepare it for baking. If we have further orders then the first tray can be used again since it will have come back after the cooling cycle. 6. To make cookies in lesser time we can use 3 ovens or use an oven with a larger capacity. With 3 ovens we can make 3 dozen cookies in just 31 minutes as compared to 48 minutes taken with just 1 oven. This amounts to an increase of 35% in sales due to time being saved. Addition of an extra oven can also help in this regard; with an extra oven we can fill 28 orders in a day instead of only 22 orders. Thus the additional rent that we can pay for an additional oven will be an amount lesser than the additional profit made by tending to 6 extra orders in a day. The additional oven will be very useful since the main Bottleneck encountered in this process is the time taken to bake the cookies. Additional analysis 1. If I were to do the whole process by myself it would take me 36 minutes to fill 2 orders which come back-to-back. The problem in this case would be that there can be no parallel processing. Thus after every 2 orders the process of baking has to start afresh, hence the total number of orders that can be filled per day will be X = (240*2)/36 = 13.333 Therefore only 13 orders can be filled everyday as compared to 22 that can be filled by 2 people. Hence working alone would have the same costs but sales would decrease by close to 50%. 2. There will be no effect on the time taken to manufacture the Crash priority order that has come up; both the new order and the order already in the oven can be delivered on time. The only problem here can arise if we have other orders in queue when this order arrives, then those orders will have to be kept waiting when we attend to this order. We can charge the customer a premium which will be equal to the number of orders whose delivery time will be extended beyond an hour due to this order. i.e. if we have 6 orders in queue and 3 of them are delayed due to the new order then Premium charged= No. of orders unfulfilled due to the new order * price; 3. The entire process time taken here is 26 minutes; every additional order will take an additional 10 minutes. Therefore we can service 4 orders in the first hour and 6 orders in every subsequent hour, this holds good if we have to deliver within an hour. If that restriction is relaxed, then delivery time we promise will be determined by the number of orders already in queue and any work-in-progress The formula that we can use for determining delivery time will be Time = (No. of orders in the queue*10 minutes) + (Work in progress* Time remaining in baking) + 10 minutes (Baking time of the new order) + 8 minutes (time till packing) i.e. if we have 3 orders in queue and another order which has to be baked for a further 5 minutes the delivery time we can promise will be Time = (3*10) + (5) +10+8 = 53 minutes. This is how we can promise delivery. 4. The major factors that should be considered at this stage of planning the business are what prices to charge, how many orders to accept and what can the profit be, the business has no extra costs apart from the input costs. But to safeguard against breakdown of equipment we must add a maintenance charge for the machine maintenance, the other costs that can come into picture are the opportunity costs, i.e. if our time was utilized in other tasks what could have been the profit we could have made. Hence these are the important factors that must be considered at this stage of planning. 5. If the product was a standard product then the following changes could be made * We can have 3 ovens, this will be useful because if the product is a standard one then we will always make 3 dozen cookies every time we prepare a mix, thus it would be useful for us to have 3 ovens as it would considerably reduce our time and give faster output * We can increase the number of orders that we can service each night * The order-taking system will be changed since now there is no customization so we will only be required to ask the customer as to how many dozens does he/she want These are the changes that should be made if the product is changed to a standardized one.

Emotion and Diction in Richard Wrightââ¬â¢s Book Black Boy :: Richard Wrightââ¬â¢s Black Boy
Emotion and Diction in Richard Wrightââ¬â¢s Book Black Boy Throughout Richard Wrightââ¬â¢s book Black Boy, which represented his life, Richard used great emotion to show us how he was and what he may have been feeling. He also referred the book to his own life by using examples and making them as evidence in the book. His techniques and diction in this book gave a fire to his writing and a voice towards how it was for him growing up. Richard Wrightââ¬â¢s main use was Pathos, which means emotion, to show us how he was feeling while he was writing this book. Was he anger or sad, excited or depressed. It all shows in his writing. I like the statement, ââ¬Å" Dick, look, youââ¬â¢re black, black, black see? Canââ¬â¢t you understand that?â⬠The way he used his emotion and it was like he was using anger in his writing to make a point. By saying ââ¬Å"Canââ¬â¢t you understand that?â⬠tells me that back in this time that there is something wrong with being black unlike today. Then another way in which he introduces emotion to us is by using the italicized words. For example, now and black. Doing this to these words give in a little more flavor and excitement. Then diction became another way in which he showed how one acts, how the scenery looks, and just describes the characters in different ways. In the statement ââ¬Å" He lit a cigarette and blew out smoke leisurelyâ⬠gives me a sense that the guy is some heavy weighted main that does not care and does what ever his heart pleases. Then in another statement like ââ¬Å" Suddenly Griggs reached for my arm and jerked me violently, sending me stumbling three or four feet across pavement.â⬠So if you were to read on you would know that he was doing that to teach Richard a lesson. But instead you got this picture in your mind of some man throwing down a child trying to hurt him. That is how strong Richard Wrightââ¬â¢s diction is. So then when you read on it tells you that Richard is growing up and is learning about life. Then we have the evidence in which Richard Wright used to show how he feels and what happened to him in his life. First of all what we have to remember is that this book is basically prototype to his life.

Ethics and International Business Essays - 2084 Words
Ethics and International Business: Finding the Lesser Evil At the beginning of this course it was made apparent that the class was not meant to be a monologue by the instructor but a discussion. From the numerous discussions held in class, I have come to the belief that ethics in international business was the most significant topic discussed in this course. Ethics in international business and the outsourcing of labor is a prevalent issue that affects not only the United States and our nations economy, but also the economy of other countries. In a world where technology has made the whole world accessible, the global economy has become more and more important. The labor standard of the outsourcing companies also gets down toâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The standard of living in the developing countries as a whole is drastically lower than that of countries such as the United States, that one must expect the wages to be proportionally as low. On the other hand, an adversary of sweatshops could at the same time fight back in saying that it is the ethical responsibility of the multinational corporations to promote the positive development of the international economies. If the wages merely cover the cost of living, then growth cannot be expected. The issue of the positive growth of the economies also plays into the other arguments a gainst sweatshops. Some would argue that sweatshops not only fail to promote positive growth but also cause negative growth and the reduction of living standards. The negative growth can be brought about by the depression of wages and increased repression to make countries appealing to multinational corporations. To counter the above additional accusations of economic decline, it can be said while the repression does exist in these countries, that economic growth that is brought about by sweatshops leads to decreased repression. However, if it is evident that repression does occur in these countries, the originally posed ethical question in international business as to whether our companies should conduct business in countries that do not uphold our ethical standards is brought about again. Lord of the Flies William Golding and Jean Jacques Rousseau
William Golding and Jean Jacques Rousseau had very different points of view on society. Golding thought what all humans are born evil and that is what makes society horrible. Rousseau things the complete difference he thinks that all humans are born pure, nice, and innocent and that society is what corrupts humans. I agree with Rousseau because I donââ¬â¢t believe that all humans are born evil. This topic about these different views on society is what the book Lord of the Flies is about. The book written by Golding shows a bit of Rousseauââ¬â¢s view and a lot of his view on society. Jean Jacques Rousseau was a French philosopher in 1712-1778. He believed that all humans are born innocent and what corrupt them and makes evil is society. He believes that if there was no society it would not make human beings feel so judged, shy or depended on others. Without society people would feel more equal they would not want to compare themselves Humans would feel freer. Rousseau thought th at society weakens humans that if someone were to grow up in a natural place and place far from society they would be stronger. Compared o the people that grow up in a society they weaken. William Golding had different thoughts; he believes that all humans are born evil and corrupt society.
